Journey Through Japan.
Just a quick write up of our October 2024 trip to Japan. Our itinerary took us through the cultural, artistic, historical, and natural wonders of Kanazawa, Naoshima, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nara, Mount Fuji, and Tokyo.
Kanazawa - The City of Traditional Elegance
We began in Kanazawa, a city that effortlessly blended modernity with tradition. We wandered through the breathtaking Kenrokuen Garden, explored the historic Kanazawa Castle, and immersed ourselves in the samurai culture at the Nagamachi Samurai District. We didn't miss the Higashi Chaya District, where we experienced traditional tea houses and gold leaf workshops.
Naoshima - The Art Island
Next, we traveled to Naoshima, an island renowned for its contemporary art and architecture. We visited the Benesse House Museum and the Chichu Art Museum, where art harmoniously coexisted with nature. The island’s outdoor installations and unique accommodations offered a serene and inspiring escape.
Kyoto - The Heart of Japan's Heritage
Our journey continued to Kyoto, the heart of Japan’s cultural heritage. We discovered the stunning temples of Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) and Fushimi Inari Shrine with its iconic torii gates. We participated in a traditional tea ceremony and strolled through the charming streets of Gion, the historic geisha district.
Hiroshima - A City of Peace and Resilience
From Kyoto, we traveled to Hiroshima, a city symbolizing peace and resilience. We visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum to reflect on the city's history. A short ferry ride took us to Miyajima Island, home to the beautiful Itsukushima Shrine and its iconic floating torii gate.
Nara - The Ancient Capital
Our next stop was Nara, Japan’s first permanent capital. Here, we encountered friendly deer roaming freely in Nara Park and visited the magnificent Todai-ji Temple, home to the Great Buddha statue. The serene gardens and ancient temples provided a tranquil escape.
Mount Fuji - Nature's Majesty
We then journeyed to the iconic Mount Fuji, where nature’s majesty awaited us. We enjoyed breathtaking views as we explored the area around Fuji’s base. We experienced traditional onsen (hot springs) in the nearby town of Hakone, providing a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.
Tokyo - The Vibrant Metropolis
Our final destination was Tokyo, a dynamic city where tradition met innovation. We explored the bustling districts of Shibuya and Shinjuku, visited historic sites like the Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, and marveled at the serenity of the Meiji Shrine. Tokyo’s vibrant street life, cutting-edge fashion, and gourmet delights ensured an unforgettable end to our journey.
